Classroom and Zoom on separate days
The Image Driving School schedule mixes two formats. When we checked in October 2026, the classroom sessions ran on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with walk-ins acceptable and reservations held for 15 minutes. Zoom classes ran on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 12:00 to 5:00 PM, and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 10:00 PM.
For an at-home learner, the evening slots are the ones to look at: they let you take the class after a school or work day. The schedule changes, so confirm the date you want before you plan around it. If you are still deciding between formats, our Zoom versus classroom comparison weighs them up.
The house rules for joining from home
The page spells out what it expects of Zoom students, which saves you from finding out the hard way:
- a camera and a microphone, both working;
- a quiet place, and not a car or your workplace;
- a copy of your permit emailed to the school;
- the full five hours: the school voids partial attendance, and you have to retake the class;
- 24 hours’ notice to reschedule, with no refund for a no-show.
These are the school’s rules rather than the DMV’s, but the DMV does require identity checks during a live online course. Our checklist helps you get all of this ready before the class.
Two of the rules are worth a second look. The one about quiet places rules out a parked car as your classroom, however calm it seems, and the one about the permit copy means sending it ahead of the class and not during the session. If your home is too noisy for a five-hour Zoom class, the classroom days on Tuesday and Thursday are the school’s alternative.
Zoom at home, certificate at the office
The class costs $45 on the page, which prints a March 2023 effective date next to that price, so confirm the current amount when you book. The MV-278 is available the next business day, and you have to come to the office at 9621 Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn to sign it and pick it up within 48 hours. The page does not mention a mail option.
That is the difference to weigh. The class is at home, but the certificate is not. If you live near Flatlands Avenue, it is a short trip. If you live farther away, a school that mails the certificate, such as Coreway, saves you the commute. The office phone number is (718) 922-2600.
Plan the class date and the pickup together
Because the certificate has to be collected in person, the class date and the pickup are linked. A certificate that is ready the next business day, and a request to come in within 48 hours, leave a short window. Plan the visit for the first days after the class, and check the office’s opening hours before you go.
Schools handle this differently. The DMV allows a school to mail the signed certificate to the address on the permit after a distance class, and some schools do; Image’s page describes pickup instead. Put the trip in your calendar when you book the class, not after it.
Where it ranks
Image Driving School is eighth in our ranking. The lower price, the choice of formats and the plainly written rules count in its favor. The in-person certificate pickup and the absence of a stated class language count against it for a learner who wants everything done from home. It suits a Brooklyn learner who is happy to visit the office once and would like to keep the option of a classroom seat.
What we like
- Zoom classes on four days a week plus two evenings
- Rules for Zoom students are spelled out on the class page
- $45 listed, the lowest live-class price after the $40 listings
- A classroom option on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Keep in mind
- The MV-278 must be signed and picked up at the office; no mail option is stated
- Exactly five hours with no breaks; partial attendance means retaking the class
- The $45 price on the class page carries a 2023 effective date
Our verdict
Image Driving School spells out its Zoom rules more plainly than most schools we rate, and at a listed $45 it is the lowest-priced live class after the $40 listings. The catch for an at-home plan is the certificate: you sign it and pick it up at the Canarsie office the next business day, with no mail option stated. If that trip is easy for you, the combination of Zoom on most days and a classroom fallback is useful. Confirm the current price with the school, since the page shows a 2023 effective date.
Best for: Brooklyn learners who can collect their certificate in person
