Zoom classes from a school with three offices
New York Auto School teaches the 5-hour class live on Zoom, and the pages we reviewed list no classroom version of the course. The school has offices at 369 Lexington Avenue, Suite 309 in Manhattan, in White Plains and in Eastchester, and its phone number is (800) 798-3818. Since the class is online, none of those addresses matters for your evening.
The pages we reviewed describe weekday and weekend classes, but they do not list specific days and start times, so you will see the real dates when you book. Learners from age 16 can take the class, and the Zoom link is emailed to you.
Three small checks before class day:
- Email. Use an address you check, and look in the spam folder if the Zoom link does not arrive.
- Permit. The DMV’s instructor rules call for a current New York photo learner permit, or a valid interim permit together with a NYS government-issued ID. Have whichever you hold within reach.
- Mailing address. The certificate is mailed to the address on your permit, so make sure that is a place where you can receive mail.
Our Zoom class checklist has the rest of the setup.
English and Spanish classes
The school lists classes in English and classes in Spanish (“Clases en Español”). That matters because of a DMV rule: a course taught in a language other than English has to say so in its advertising, and this school does. A Spanish class is the same course and gives the same MV-278 as an English one.
If Spanish is the language you follow best, ask for it when you book rather than assuming the date you picked is an English session. For other schools that teach in Spanish, see our Spanish-language guide.
$65, with road test scheduling included
The school’s 2026 price list shows $65 for the class. That is at the upper end of the prices in our ranking, but the school also offers free road test scheduling with the class, a service that several schools on our list sell as a paid add-on. If you plan to book your road test anyway, the offer closes some of the price gap.
Prices for the same five-hour class vary from school to school, from $40 to $65 in our ranking. Our rating method counts price and how clearly it is published, and weighs both against languages and extras.
If you plan to use the scheduling service, ask the school how it works and what lead time to expect. The DMV says the earliest road test slots are usually 3 to 5 weeks away, and up to 10 weeks in busy periods, so the earlier you start the better. The DMV’s road test page explains what to bring.
The certificate and the cancellation rule
The MV-278 is mailed the next business day to the address on your permit. The school lists overnight, certified and regular mail options. A late cancellation is charged in full under its 24-hour policy, so if your plans fall through, cancel at least a day ahead and not on the afternoon of the class.
When the certificate arrives, keep the paper original: the DMV wants the original, not a copy, at the road test, and it is valid for one year. The details are on the DMV course page.
Where it ranks
New York Auto School is seventh in our list. Its published Spanish classes and its free road test scheduling are the points in its favor; the higher price and class days that the pages we reviewed do not list hold it back. Compare it with Coreway, which also teaches in Spanish on select Sundays and lists its weekly timetable.
What we like
- Classes in English and Spanish
- Zoom link emailed to you
- Free road test scheduling with the class
- MV-278 mailed to your permit address the next business day
Keep in mind
- $65, among the highest prices in our ranking
- The class page does not list specific days and times
- Late cancellations are charged in full under its 24-hour policy
Our verdict
New York Auto School is the highest-ranked school outside the top four that teaches live Zoom classes in both English and Spanish. The certificate arrives by mail at your permit address the next business day, with faster mail options available, and road test scheduling comes free with the class. The $65 price is among the highest we list, and because the class page does not show specific days and times you will need to check the booking flow for dates. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead if your plans change.
Best for: Spanish speakers who want a mailed certificate and free road test scheduling
